You hit the nail on the head. I had the exact same workflow in mind, which is why I created PageServe as an open-source solution to do exactly what you described.
I've built a dedicated backend service that wraps the PageIndex engine, paired with a fully typed Python SDK (pip install pageserve) to manipulate and query the service seamlessly.
It's designed specifically for self-hosting scenarios. It also comes with an MCP Server for AI agents and a UI Playground.
