Sessions for March 26th W3C Breakout Day 2025

W3C Breakout Day 2025 is happening on March 26th.

We should propose specific sessions for web components related topics.

I've never heard of Breakout Day before, but I just made two new proposals (#1094 and #1096). I'm not a fan of making Mustache syntax part of the HTML standard, but there are a few things missing from template elements I'd really like to see.

I suggest we discuss scoped custom element registry (HTML PR, DOM PR).

For the Scoped Custom Element Registries session it'd be useful if we had 2h I think so we can go through the PRs in some amount of detail. cc @smaug---- @mfreed7

I took the liberty of suggesting a separate session for DOM parts and template instantiation as well:

+1 to Symbitic template concern.
The XSLT bended into HTML seems fit the bill of

• functionaly complete template
• already supported by browsers
• already supported by IDEs

The POC is available to play with.
It is compatible with modular development using import maps, supports non-shadow insulation for styling, etc.

XSLT is largely a legacy API at this point. Unless any browser engine is actively interested in developing XSLT and XPath further I don’t think we should spend any meeting time on that.

I agree with that, but I'm still not sure standardizing Handlebars is the way to go. Among other things, it just doesn't seem to fit the whole modern idea of the web.

Some kind of agreed upon syntax seems needed to make templating more useful though.

Not necessarily. Template Attributes is a proposal that could allow passing dynamic data to templates using attributes (like innerText).
