To everyone who are using and supporting this project:
As the maintenance on Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8.1 is not forever and efforts on maintenance on these Windows version is not infinite, here is the announcement as a memo of the possible time of ending support for these Windows version.
The support may end in the conditions below (depending on which comes first):
- Go 2 will not have support on legacy Windows before Windows 10;
- The last possible supported minor version of Go 1 may be released on the first half of 2028 (will not be later than March);
- This minor version will be supported through the end of its last patch;
- The minor version of Go 1 released in the second half of 2028 will not have support on legacy Windows before Windows 10;
- If severe compatibility problem(s) caused by upstream occurred, and fixing this problem may have serious impact on security or stability of the package, or the complexity of the fixing is out of control:
- If the problem occurred in a new minor version (Go 1.[x].0), the previous minor version will be the last minor version (Go 1.[x-1])
- If the problem occurred in the middle of a minor version (Go 1.x.y):
- If Go 1.[x+1] is not broken, this will only break support on Go 1.[x];
- If Go 1.[x+1] is also broken, this will end all support immediately.
