On an entirely separate note, can I search excluding a word or tag in the app?

Not yet. You can search excluding a tag with the api or with zapscript but not from the app

Investigated current app/Core behavior.

Core already supports negative tag filters in media.search via tag prefixes:

• type:value / +type:value = must have tag
• -type:value = must not have tag
• ~type:value = OR tag

The app search UI currently only exposes positive tag selection. TagSelector formats selected tags as type:value, and useVirtualInfiniteSearch passes those directly to media.search. There is no UI path for selecting an excluded tag or emitting -type:value.

The text-query example ("street fighter" -super) does not appear to be supported today. Core search splits query text with whitespace and treats terms as positive matches; there is no quoted phrase / negative term parser in the media search path.

So this issue is still valid for the app if framed as exposing Core's existing negative tag filters. If we also want -word text-query exclusion, that is probably separate Core search syntax work.

Possible title: Expose negative tag filters in app media search.
