Important
Follow applied-anthro.com for the latest work.
This repository began as an effort to make my discussions and writing on social development easy to access and share. Years later, I am moving beyond primarily authoring text discussions and increasingly working with interactive data and visualizations.
Most of that work will now be developed in the application that powers applied-anthro.com. I will attempt to keep this GitHub repository updated to reflect important changes made there, but the content of the two sites will continue to diverge. Interactive features also do not always translate into GitHub page previews, which restrict JavaScript execution for security reasons.
This repository will remain a useful companion and historical record, but applied-anthro.com should be treated as the current version of the work.
Social policy has varied articulations and manifestations. This repository collects contextual information pertinent to social policy, including discussions of social policy of international financial institutions, international and country law and regulatory frameworks, and helpful resources for social development practitioners.
In tracking how social policy is defined and realized, policy formulations change and evolve. The relationship between seemingly similar terms and concepts is sometimes obtuse and counter-intuitive. This repository is open and public in the hope that someone (other than myself) may eventually find and use it. Ideally, this repository may one day help others tasked with analyzing social policy and its phenomenological manifestations.
Currently, I am a solo author—doing my best to keep up with the changes and to identify and analyze inconsistencies where I encounter them. I doubt I will ever finish. If you find your way here, welcome! If you'd like to contribute, that'd be amazing. Ideally, submit a pull request.
For those reading via this site's front end, I am slowly building out navigation links and index files to guide your journey through this website. Please bear with me; I'll work it out. Here are a few bits of orientation:
-
terms/#definitional terminology -
social-policy/#clarifications of the organization of social policy among development finance institutions -
country-safeguard-systems/#work on state-level social policy, including compilation of law and analysis of topical issues -

For those reading via GitHub, the repository structure will be apparent.
Thanks for visiting. Please let me know how this site can be improved!
