Detects nothing on my install, shows nothing in integrations, cannot find anywhere to add manually because of that.

Hi, that's odd. You should at least have Battery Notes show up as an integration.
Is there anything in the logs?

Nothing, no idea how to debug at the hacs level , any ideas? Let me see if I can bump HA debug level , I assume somehow...
Or remove it and install manually..

Odd, the info HACS log is fine but strange you are not getting anything else
I'd suggest removing it in HACS (dots on the end of the battery notes entry)
Deleting the folder in config/custom components/battery_notes
Restarting HA and trying again, something got added as you got the Battery Notes dialog but doesn't seem to have added a config entry which is the trigger to load it.

Installed manually and it setup and seems to work now. Some kind of issue with my hacs or maybe perms..

Not a bug at this point, Ill see if I can reproduce and get debug logs on hacs, everything else seems to work fine

I use HACS on my prod system to update my own integrations and know it's the most common install method so sounds like just a blip.
Try installing again via HACS in a few days as that way you'll get easy updates but at least it's working now for you.
