Why am I hitting this with python SDK? Whole point of SDK is to have non-interactive control over claude code.

To be clear, the ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is set for our organization that normally has normal access to API and works with claude code.

But I am on a version as of yesterday. i.e. 1.0.43 So maybe regression?

Also why does claude code CLI force me to sign in and go to browser even with normal API key? Feel like it's related.

Also, I don't want claude to write things to disk that would store secret information. As SDK it should be stateless and just use the API key, else it's pointless to add to a product.

The whole ~/.claude.json defeats the entire purpose. It leaks API keys and other private information.

Also all this litellm-gateway stuff: https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code/llm-gateway doesn't work, still asks for login.

Closing as stale — this was filed against CLI v1.0.43 (July 2025). The SDK and CLI have been substantially updated since then (now at v0.1.50 / CLI 2.1.83). API key handling via ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable works correctly in the current version. If you're still experiencing this on a current version, please open a new issue with version details.
