Campaign Lead Counters Cache

Overview

Eliminates expensive database aggregations by storing cached lead counters directly on the Campaign model. Counters are automatically synchronized via Django signals.

What Changed

New Fields on Campaign Model

Automatic Updates

Django signals intercept CampaignLead changes and recalculate counters instantly:

  • post_save → Lead enrolled, status changed, or interaction tracked
  • post_delete → Lead removed from campaign

API Changes

Serializers and views now return cached counters instead of computing aggregates:

Setup

1. Run Migration

python manage.py migrate campaigns

2. Backfill Existing Data

python manage.py backfill_campaign_counters

3. Verify (Optional)

python manage.py backfill_campaign_counters --campaign-id=<UUID>

  • migrations/0009_campaign_cached_counters.py — NEW: Schema migration
  • management/commands/backfill_campaign_counters.py — NEW: Backfill utility

Notes

  • Counters default to 0 (safe for new campaigns)
  • Backfill command is idempotent and can run anytime
  • Signals use atomic transactions to prevent race conditions
  • Time-series breakdowns still query CampaignLead (needed for daily charts)
  • No breaking changes to API or client code
