Issue description

I have a black screen on Splash video when booting batocera. But sound playing without any video.

Detailed reproduction steps

I insalled batocera 42 on my system x86_x64 intel core i7-6700.
With integrated graphics splash screen works fine.
But on AMD R9 360 black screen with sound.

Details of any attempts to fix this yourself

I tried to reconfigure batocera.conf for splash screen andd this doesn't help. Nothing change...

Details of any modifications you have made to Batocera.

I don;t have any modifications. Just clean batocera 43.1

Check your PC's motherboard settings to see if there's an option to disable the iGPU or only allow the dGPU to be used.

it's dell bios Vostro 3650 and don't have switch on videocard.

I have the exact same issue on my new Batocera build. Using older hardware and the only thing that I changed was installing an AMD Radeon RX 550.

I had an Intel Arc A380 in there originally and it worked correctly playing the default splash video with sound.

I am able to disable and enable the onboard Intel IGPU but neither enabled or disabled allows it to show video for the AMD GPU, I only hear the sound.

I think it's not a black screen, the video is playing but on a different port.

I have the same issue on my R5 340, it has 2 ports (DP and DVI), the splash video plays on the DisplayPort but I don't have monitors connected in there, I use the DVI port (for a CRT). Once the splash video ends, everything goes back to the DVI.

I know the video plays on the DP because I've previously connected a monitor in there and can see the video playing.

Also, I'm using the Batocera CRT Script, if that helps.

But why this happen? Why system can't detect active port? My DELL bios doesn't have video selector - it's only auto there. On videocard - hdmi and dvi-d. And no video on both.

Can confirm, the video is playing on the Display Port of the same card, not the HDMI port that has an active connection and is what initially shows the Batocera Boot image on. Seems that the HDMI-0 output specified in the config is not being used correctly to display the splash video.

That explains some of the inconsistencies over audio working or not too as many get sound through HDMI. Mine is sound through the analogue onboard audio card so doesn't rely on HDMI audio output.

Seems the splash video is only playing on the first port of the GPU, whatever that happens to be. On my AMD card that is a DP, on my Intel Arc GPU it is HDMI.
