Next Steps

Immediate (Before First Release)

  1. Build and Test

    • Install dependencies: yarn install
    • Build native module: yarn build:native
    • Build TypeScript: yarn build:ts
    • Run tests: yarn test
  2. Fix Any Build Issues

    • Verify libssh is installed
    • Test on target platforms (Linux, macOS, Windows)
    • Fix any compilation errors
  3. Integration Testing

    • Test with real SSH servers
    • Test tunneling with databases
    • Test agent authentication
    • Test with 1Password/YubiKey if available
  4. Bug Fixes

    • Fix SSHChannel::CreateChannel() reference issue
    • Fix any memory leaks
    • Ensure proper error handling

Before Production Use

  1. Additional Tests

    • Integration tests with Docker SSH server
    • Memory leak testing with Valgrind
    • Stress testing with multiple connections
    • Edge case testing
  2. Platform Testing

    • Test on Ubuntu 20.04/22.04
    • Test on macOS 12+
    • Test on Windows 10/11
    • Test with Electron 31

    • Migration guide (if replacing existing solution)
  4. Performance Optimization

    • Profile tunnel performance
    • Optimize buffer sizes
    • Connection pooling strategies

Future Enhancements

  1. SFTP Support (Phase 5)

  3. Developer Experience

    • Better error messages
    • Debug logging
    • Connection metrics
    • Event emitters for status changes

Known Issues

  1. SSHChannel Reference Management

    • The CreateChannel() method needs to properly maintain references between session and channel
    • Currently implemented but may need testing
  2. Thread Safety

    • libssh is not thread-safe
    • Concurrent operations on same session need serialization
    • Documented but not enforced in code
  3. Windows Support

    • Not tested on Windows yet
    • May need adjustments to binding.gyp
    • Agent detection may need Windows-specific paths

Testing Requirements

Risk Assessment

High Risk

  • None identified (core functionality implemented)

Medium Risk

  • Untested Code: No actual build/runtime testing yet
  • Platform Support: Windows support unverified
  • Memory Leaks: No Valgrind testing performed

Low Risk

  • SFTP: Not implemented but not critical for MVP
  • Documentation: May need refinement based on user feedback

Conclusion

The implementation is substantially complete for the MVP (Phases 1-4). The core SSH functionality including:

  • Sessions
  • Authentication (password & agent)
  • Channels
  • Tunneling
  • Agent detection
  • Config parsing

...are all implemented according to the plan.

Next critical steps:

  1. Build the project and fix any compilation errors
  2. Run basic tests
  3. Test with a real SSH server
  4. Fix any bugs discovered
  5. Test on all target platforms

The codebase is ready for initial testing and iteration.
