A starter makes use of those ingredients. In the beginning, you “feed” or replenish a starter each day. During that day, you want to keep you starter between 86°F and 104°F. My house does not get that warm, so my starter hangs out on top of my Mac Pro. The exhaust of my computer hovers around 100°F.</p><p><picture><source srcset="https://benkutil.com/media/generated/bread/bread-starter-new-location-2624by1756-37b251.jpg" media="(min-width: 52em) and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2), (min-width: 52em) and (min-resolution: 192dpi)"></source><source srcset="https://benkutil.com/media/generated/bread/bread-starter-new-location-1312by878-37b251.jpg" media="(min-width: 52em)"></source><source srcset="https://benkutil.com/media/generated/bread/bread-starter-new-location-2048by1371-37b251.jpg" media="(min-width: 52em) and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2), (min-width: 52em) and (min-resolution: 192dpi)"></source><source srcset="https://benkutil.com/media/generated/bread/bread-starter-new-location-1024by685-37b251.jpg" media="(min-width: 52em)"></source><source srcset="https://benkutil.com/media/generated/bread/bread-starter-new-location-1280by857-37b251.jpg" media="(min-width: 25em) and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2), (min-width: 25em) and (min-resolution: 192dpi)"></source><source srcset="https://benkutil.com/media/generated/bread/bread-starter-new-location-640by428-37b251.jpg" media="(min-width: 25em)"></source><source srcset="https://benkutil.com/media/generated/bread/bread-starter-new-location-750by502-37b251.jpg" media="(-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2), (min-resolution: 192dpi)"></source><source srcset="https://benkutil.com/media/generated/bread/bread-starter-new-location-375by251-37b251.jpg"><img src="https://benkutil.com/media/generated/bread/bread-starter-new-location-375by251-37b251.jpg" class="block" itemprop="image" alt="Keep warm little starter"></source></picture></p><p>Bread recipes represent all other ingredients as percentages of the total flour weight.</p><p>With this starter, you begin with <code>100% Flour</code>, and <code>200% Water</code>.
