Describe the Feature

Currently, it seems like there's an issue with Blacksky (not sure if it's the appview or the PDS)¹. Something that could help folks understand what's going on would be introducing a status page (be it hosted - ideally - or home grown). I personally use https://hetrixtools.com/ for Olamaelcu's services (here's what it looks like for https://waitlist.olamaelcu.net: https://hetrixtools.com/report/uptime/31db49b3d0eee16957851ade511ef376/). Some folks use https://www.atlassian.com/software/statuspage - "industry standard"-esque.

Actually, added benefit of something like this is that when the mobile app drops, if it's tracking the health and speed of interactions with services, it could help slow down traffic until this alert reports it to be back up.

From some conversation online, it looks like there's going to be a push for OTLP metrics collection in the reference PDS. What I can do is monitor that for rsky-pds to contribute the equivalent (I'd recommend https://docs.rs/metrics/latest/metrics/ to collect it) to it and use that to make a static route called /status that can cache metrics about the PDS and help avoid a thundering herd situation when it starts up (so the main AppView can relax on sending calls until it gets metrics indicating that the PDS is up).
