Harbor orchestration owns the environment session_id: BaseEnvironment accepts and stores it, while Trial supplies {trial_name}__env for the agent environment (harbor/environments/base.py:116-138, harbor/environments/base.py:178-181, harbor/trial/trial.py:825-836). A separate verifier environment uses {trial_name}__verifier__{key}, replaces characters outside alphanumeric/-._ with _, and truncates beyond 63 characters with an eight-hex SHA-1 suffix (harbor/trial/trial.py:674-683). Trial names default to {task_name_up_to_32_chars}__{7-character_shortuuid} (harbor/models/trial/config.py:453-462).
The run/trial-level EnvironmentConfig in harbor/models/trial/config.py:196 has both delete: bool = True and kwargs: dict[str, Any]. EnvironmentFactory.create_environment_from_config expands config.kwargs into the custom environment constructor (harbor/environments/factory.py:302-342). The separately defined task-level EnvironmentConfig stored as self.task_env_config is from harbor/models/task/config.py:416; it describes the task image/resources and has no delete field. Canonical Stagehand owns the Browserbase session by default. Its eval packages contain no reads of BROWSERBASE_SESSION_ID or BROWSERBASE_CONNECT_URL. Session reuse is exposed as the browserbaseSessionID V3 option (stagehand/packages/core/lib/v3/types/public/options.ts:36) and is copied only from configOverrides by stagehand/packages/evals/initV3.ts:118; both bench callers pass only { env: config.environment } (stagehand/packages/evals/framework/benchHarness.ts:167-181, 189-203), and evals run declares no session-id flag (stagehand/packages/evals/tui/commands/parse.ts).
BrowserbaseEnvironment(create_session=False) therefore creates no SDK session, while its explicit uses_browserbase = True still makes the agent invoke evals run ... --env browserbase. create_session=True remains an opt-in for a patched Stagehand build that forwards browserbaseSessionID into initV3; with canonical Stagehand, the injected variables are inert and the option creates a second billed session. Session overlays still use BaseEnvironment.scoped_exec_env, including the empty no-op scope, so they remain ContextVar-local under concurrent trials.

Custom verifier resolution uses the run-level harbor.models.trial.config.VerifierConfig, not the task-level model. If config.import_path is non-None, the factory imports a class constrained to subclass BaseVerifier, forwards the standard constructor arguments, the optional log filters, config.kwargs, and caller kwargs; otherwise it constructs Harbor's built-in Verifier, and rejects verifier kwargs without an import path (harbor/verifier/factory.py:14-43, harbor/verifier/factory.py:45-99). The scrubber collects candidate secret values from exactly three sources: the instantiated agent's extra_env (resolved from run-level agent env), task-level verifier env, and run-level verifier env. )The scrub pass is called during finalization (harbor/trial/trial.py:365-372) and replaces literal matches with [REDACTED] in non-symlink, UTF-8-looking, non-binary files under the trial directory (harbor/trial/trial.py:756-778). It does not collect values from task-level [environment].env, run-level environment.env, solution.env, arbitrary host environment variables that are not referenced by one of the three collected mappings, verifier/agent kwargs, or any key whose name does not match the pattern.
In this integration, BROWSERBASE_API_KEY is in agent.extra_env and its name matches KEY, so Harbor replaces that literal even where it is embedded inside a signed Browserbase connect URL. BROWSERBASE_PROJECT_ID does not match the sensitive-key regex, so its value survives verbatim in the jobs directory. Removing the project id before jobs output is shared is currently an operator responsibility and a known gap; there is no integration-level trial scrub hook here.
- Implementing only
execis insufficient: a concrete environment must implement all nine members inBaseEnvironment.__abstractmethods__. - Treating the agent's Python coroutine as container-resident breaks the execution model; it is host-side code that receives a container environment handle.
- Putting
import_pathin task-level[verifier]does not load a custom verifier because that key is silently dropped there. - Using
pathin an artifact table fails to identify an artifact because the model usessourceand optionaldestinationinstead. - Passing secrets through environment-level env mappings does not make them eligible for Harbor's trial-output scrubber.
- Assuming per-exec env overrides agent-scoped env reverses the real merge order; scoped env wins.
