Looks like you tried using #elytra on the nether roof. There was work to make that possible, but development stalled, so not sure how long it will take until it's done. I haven't looked at it for so long, I do not know anymore how close to done it was.

The elytra work mentioned above is merged and will make it's way into releases for all major Minecraft versions from 1.19.4 upwards over the next one or two months.
