The JWE spec defines support for compression (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7516#section-4.1.3) but it does not seem to be supported. Maybe it's intentional due to the compression side-channel attack vector, but that's more of an issue for the one deciding to use compression I'd say.
