BackHandler Error while closing Chatwoot

When I attempt to close the Chatwoot Modal using the x button, I encounter an error message.

ERROR: Warning: TypeError: _reactNative.BackHandler.removeEventListener is not a function (it is undefined)

I am currently using Expo v53 with React Native 0.79.

Could you please look into this issue?

I'm experiencing the same problem.
Expo 53 and React Native 0.96 too

I think BackHandler.removeEventListener was removed and react-native-webview should be used in its latest versions where they updated its internal handling to use the new BackHandler API

edit: I was pointing to the wrong culprit, the issue is actually caused by react-native-modal.

I accidentally closed the PR that fixed this, and it looks like this repository isn’t being maintained. So we ended up creating a fork and fixed this, along with a few other things below.
