6+
- ## Key Standards Covered
7+
- ### [[SCORM]]
8+
- The oldest and most widely adopted standard
9+
- Developed by [[US/Gov/ADL]] in early 2000s
10+
- Enables content portability across [[LMS]]s
11+
- Two main versions still in use:
12+
- SCORM 1.2 (most common)
13+
- SCORM 2004 (adds sequencing)
14+
- ### [[AICC]]
15+
- One of the earliest eLearning standards
16+
- Created by the Aviation Industry CBT Committee
17+
- Laid groundwork for later standards
18+
- Dissolved in 2014, but influenced [[cmi5]]
19+
- ### [[xAPI]] (Experience API)
20+
- Modern successor to SCORM
21+
- Focuses on tracking learning experiences
22+
- More flexible than SCORM:
23+
- Works outside the browser
24+
- Supports mobile learning
25+
- Can track informal learning
26+
- Uses [[xAPI/LRS]] to store learning data
27+
- ### [[cmi5]]
28+
- Combines best of SCORM and xAPI
29+
- Created by [[AICC]] and [[US/Gov/ADL]]
30+
- Provides standardized launch mechanism
31+
- Uses xAPI for tracking
32+
- Growing adoption in modern systems
33+
- ### [[IMS/Common Cartridge]]
34+
- Developed by [[1EdTech]] (formerly IMS Global)
35+
- Popular in academic settings
36+
- Supports various content types:
37+
- Course materials
38+
- [[IMS/QTI]] assessments
39+
- Discussion prompts
40+
- External tools via [[LTI]]
41+
- ## Standard Selection Guidance
42+
- Choose [[SCORM]] for:
43+
- Traditional self-paced eLearning
44+
- Maximum LMS compatibility
45+
- Simple completion tracking
46+
- Choose [[xAPI]] for:
47+
- Modern, mobile-first learning
48+

51+
- New projects needing SCORM-like features
52+
- xAPI tracking requirements
53+
- Future-proofing content
54+
- Choose [[IMS/Common Cartridge]] for:
55+
