DNG files are not supported (iPhone 16 Pro Max)

Describe the bug

Hi. My old iPhone broke recently and I had to buy a new one. But today I tried to start developing some of the DNG negatives I'd taken with my new iPhone 16 Pro Max, and they load as a pixel question mark, and I get a notification saying "The image 'UTWY1533.DNG' is not supported." And I can't open them.

As far as I could tell (and I did check), I'm not using Apple ProRAW or anything. The photos were taken using ProCam by Tinkerworks. The DNG files just aren't supported for some reason.

Steps to reproduce

1. Import the attached DNG into darktable.
2. Notice that it can't be opened.

My old phone was an iPhone 6s+ (edit: 11 Pro Max), and DNGs from that phone worked great in darktable.

Apple ProRAWs since iOS 18 are DNG level 1.7, i.e. JPEG XL compressed, and currently not supported as the release notes and the camera support page clearly state.

I just looked into it briefly. From what I can gather, Apple ProRAW is basically the Holy Roman Empire of digital photography; that is, it's neither pro nor RAW.

From what little I've learnt in the past few minutes, it looks like ProRAW is basically a glorified JPEG with a ".dng" (digital negative) file extension, as opposed to an actual digital negative, so it seems like ProRAW is of rather limited use to people who actually want to develop out negatives.

@hmturnbull Nope. It's high bit depth JPEG XL. Still plenty of latitude for developing...

@victoryforce IIRC I did test it on one Apple sample present on RPU. Haven't tested on Adobe and Samsung flavours...

Please don't confuse lack of interest, lack of replies/activity and complete lack of mental energy to do literally anything.

I didn't mean just you @LebedevRI , there are plenty of users who could at least give it a spin... Yes, seems to work on at least one RPU sample.
