touchpad zooming pinch/expand doesn't work

Describe the bug

Wanted to try the new mousepad gestures for the docs, touchpad pinch/expand for zooming doesn't work for me.

Started with a clean config, imported some images. Pinch zooming doesnt work. Running with -d input does not produce output when attempting to pinch zoom (pinch zooming does work in e.g. firefox).

Two finger scrolling however zooms with output like:

additional info: touchpad gestures are (per default) enabled in the preferences.

darktable is running under x11/xwayland (for some reason the appimage always launches in X11 for me). Using KDE. 6.6.4.

It looks like your input device does not recognise or route those pinch zoom gestures properly to GTK.
Which input device hardware are you using? An external tablet or an actual laptop tochpad?

Integrated touchpad HP Omen15 - same behaviour on old Asus Zenbook running same OS/KDE etc..

Can you please check the following things:

• is darkroom/ui/touchpad_gestures set to TRUE in your darktablerc config file? (you already said you checked the settings, but I just wanted to double check)
• so the behavior is the same under X11 and wayland? can you make sure the appimage runs on wayland?
• Have you tried running on a GTK Wayland backend, e.g. on a Gnome desktop? Using GDK_BACKEND=wayland. I just want to rule out KDE specifics.
• Could you share your xinput list output?

I did a quick test with Darktable-5.5.0+1404.ge6d95e3808-x86_64.AppImage on my Ubuntu 24.04 machine running Gnome w/ wayland without any issue. Running it via GDK_BACKEND=wayland and GDK_BACKEND=x11 both work.

2.) I tried launching the appimage with GDK_BACKEND=wayland but cannot make it launch with wayland; always falls back to X11 .
3.) Don't have a Machine to try that out natively. In an Ubuntu VM dt also falls back to x11. Behaviour is the same (two finger scrolling zooms, two finger pinching does nothing).

Two finger panning does not work

Somewhere between my finger and darktable the touchpad seems to get mapped as mouse. Which is weird considering that e.g. in firefox pinch-zooming works and also KDE recognizes three-finger pinch for the whole-screen-zoom.

BTW.: does the appimage launch into native wayland for you? I've tried Fedora KDE, Ubuntu and Kubuntu in VMs and it always defaults to XWayland.
