ddterm once had customizable tab titles using Handlebars. But I had to remove them because reviewers on extensions.gnome.org didn't like bundled third party libraries.
However, there is a replacement for Handlebars - https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/template-glib.
One caveat is that template-glib isn't available on RHEL, so the feature should be optional.
