Note: we found a severe performance problem with JDT tooling due the patch integrated late in RC1.
The fix is merged on 4.38 master branch already and we are evaluating the possibility for 4.37 RC2a build.

Due my vacation I haven't spent much time using RC1+ and only started to use 4.38 recently. So after looking into this issue reported, I've per occasion stumbled into a guaranteed freeze of 8 seconds by doing following steps: eclipse-jdt/eclipse.jdt.ui#2465 (comment). I was able to reproduce it on 4.38 https://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops4/I20250903-1800/ and the fix that fixes te problem I've observed was merged into https://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops4/I20250904-1800/.

To reproduce, have jdt core project in workspace, go to any type that calls org.eclipse.jdt.internal.core.JavaModelManager.getInfo(IJavaElement) (for example,
https://github.com/eclipse-jdt/eclipse.jdt.core/blob/71b98650c1d86d05169c732f2ec94166123c8afb/org.eclipse.jdt.core/model/org/eclipse/jdt/internal/core/BinaryType.java#L290) and ctrl+click on getInfo() call. UI will freeze for ~8 second on my 32 cores Xeon workstation with 256 GB RAM...

Extra scrutiny of potential build would be needed and someone has to verify that swt bits are 100% identical as 0b5f792 has the potential to create quite some churn.

Alternatively we could somehow (oomph notification?) make users aware that the problem could be avoided by disabling the option below:

It is surely not obvious to know that random freezes are caused by this bug.

Or even better, we could add product customization that disables this preference in EPP packages. @merks, is it possible?
