The same thing as Fix Elixir 1.20 compilation | #623, but without the unnecessary changes.

I have reviewed, and while I haven't personally haven't tested the changes with older versions of Elixir, I do believe the syntax has been around for quite some time, and should be backwards compatible. Hopefully the GitHub Actions unit tests matrix will catch it, and if not, I will update if it fails.
