rustic gets progressively slower the longer I use it

After a restart of emacs rustic is snappy, but after a modest amount of time working on a project it becomes unbearably slow to use. Input lags etc. This seems to only be fixed by a full restart of emacs, killing the rust buffers doesn't help.

I am using more or less the default settings for rustic, as installed by the spacemacs layer, and am on the latest commit. Performance is fine if I switch to rust-mode, but starts to chug again if I then enable lsp-mode. Any ideas?

Is it the same case with lsp-mode disabled?

it might be very slightly faster? but still unpleasant to use
