Play Threadbare on Steam Deck

Threadbare is still in a pre-alpha stage of development, so we have not published it to major storefronts like Steam, itch.io, and so on. However, it is published on Flathub, the best place to find apps for Linux, and because Steam Deck comes pre-configured to install apps from Flathub, it is quite straightforward to install and play Threadbare on Steam Deck.

Go to Desktop Mode

A Steam Deck is essentially a laptop in an unusual case, and comes with a fully-featured Linux desktop pre-installed. From game mode:

0. Make sure you're not running any games – the next steps will quit them all!

1. Press the Steam button

2. Choose ⏻ Power

   

3. Choose Switch to Desktop
   

Your Steam Deck will restart into a desktop environment. Use the right trackpad to move the mouse, and R2 to click; or use the touchscreen.

Install Threadbare in Discover

1. Click the Discover icon on the taskbar: it looks like a shopping bag
   

2. Find Threadbare and click on it:

   • Either go to the Games category and scroll through the list;
   • Or click the search button and type Threadbare using the on-screen keyboard.
   

3. Click Install from Flathub. This may take a few minutes, depending on your internet connection speed.
   

You can now launch Threadbare from the applications menu:

Add Threadbare to Gaming Mode

Rather than going to desktop mode every time you want to play Threadbare, you can make it available in gaming mode with a few more steps:

1. Click the Steam icon on the desktop
   

2. Go to the Library tab
   

3. Click the + icon at the bottom of the list, and choose Add non-Steam game…
   
   

4. Find Threadbare in the list, tick the checkbox to its left, and click Add Selected Programs
   

Return to game mode

On the desktop, double-click the Return to Gaming Mode icon in the top-left.

Play Threadbare

You should now see Threadbare in your Library under Non-Steam. It doesn't have any cover art but should work fine!

Updating Threadbare

We publish new pre-releases of Threadbare on Flathub every few weeks. To update:

1. Go to desktop mode
2. Open Discover
3. Go to the Updates tab
4. If Threadbare is listed, click Update
5. When the update is finished, return to game mode
