Playing the Game
Adventure Packs are the major content releases that carry Threadbare forward — planned expansions that arrive on a rolling roadmap, each one deepening the world, extending the story, and introducing new mechanics, locations, characters, and lore. They are how Threadbare grows. Each Adventure Pack is a self-contained chapter in the larger story of the StoryWeaver's journey — complete enough to be experienced on its own terms, connected enough to enrich everything that came before and everything that will come after. They are not patches or updates in the conventional sense. They are new fabric, woven into the world.
No two Adventure Packs are identical in scope or structure, but each one typically introduces some combination of the following:
- New Lore and LoreQuests - extensions of the main narrative, advancing the StoryWeaver's story and deepening the canonical lore of Threadbare. LoreQuests introduced in an adventure Pack are permanent additions to the world — once woven in, they stay.
- New Locations - regions, settlements, and key sites to explore, each with their own history, inhabitants, and relationship to the wider world. Adventure Packs have introduced everything from entirely new regions to a single, richly detailed building with stories layered into every room.
- New Characters - NPCs, allies, enemies, and figures whose stories intersect with the StoryWeaver's journey in ways that range from brief and memorable to central and lasting.
- New Mechanics - gameplay systems that change how the world is navigated and experienced. The Void Runner, the Grappling Hook, and other core mechanics of the game did not arrive at launch - they arrived in Adventure Packs, introduced by the demands of new stories that needed new ways to be told.
- New Creatures and Enemies — additions to the world's ecology, both the allied creatures who accompany and assist the StoryWeaver and the enemies who serve the Void's advance.
- New Lore Artifacts and Documents - in-world texts, letters, observations, and accounts that expand the world's history and mythology beyond what the quests themselves can carry.
Adventure Packs are planned and released on a rolling roadmap - a living schedule that reflects both the development team's intentions and the ongoing contributions of the Threadbare Community. The roadmap is not a fixed contract. It is a weaving in progress: the pattern is set, but the thread is still being worked. Upcoming Adventure Packs are announced in broad terms before their release. Enough for the community to know what is coming and contribute toward it, without so much detail that the narrative is spoiled. As an Adventure Pack moves closer to release, more of its contents become visible.
The current and upcoming Adventure Packs are listed on the Threadbare Roadmap.
The Void Pack
Release Date - 18th June 2026 - Launched officially at the Serious Play Conference, Mainz, Germany.
The first Adventure Pack and the one that established the template for all that followed. The Void Pack deepened the world's understanding of its central threat, introduced the first major mechanical expansions - the Void Runner and the Grappling Hook - and extended the StoryWeaver's journey into territory that the base game had only gestured toward. The Void Pack is where Threadbare first showed what it could become: a world capable of surprising itself, growing in directions that felt both inevitable and unexpected, adding new mechanics not because they were features on a list but because the story demanded them.

Threadbare is an open-source project, and Adventure Packs reflect that. While the core narrative content of each Pack is delivered as a LoreQuest - the canonical lore, the new locations, creatures and mechanics, etc - is developed by the Endless Access team, Adventure Packs also create space for community contribution - new StoryQuests set in the Pack's new locations, new characters inhabiting the new regions, harnessing the new art and audio assets, building out its aesthetic. An Adventure Pack does not close when its core content is released, but moves to community ownership, becoming a new canvas for the StoryQuests, characters, and stories that the community brings to it. The world the development team introduces to the community makes richer with community imput. If you are a contributor interested in building toward an upcoming Adventure Pack, the best starting point is the GitHub Discussions board, where the development team shares what each Pack will need and where community contributions will have the most impact.
Threadbare Canon
LoreQuests introduced through Adventure Packs are canonical. They form part of the permanent, official story of Threadbare and should be treated as fixed lore. Future contributions set within the lore of the world of Threadbare. While StoryQuests do not StoryQuests set within an Adventure Pack's new content are non-canonical — they exist alongside the main story, enriching the world without binding it. They are no less valued for that. The canonical story is the skeleton. The StoryQuests are the fabric stretched across it, giving it colour and texture and life.
Notes for Contributors
When a new Adventure Pack is announced, a dedicated wiki section will be created for it. Contributors developing StoryQuests set within a Pack's new locations should:
Read the Pack's lore pages thoroughly before beginning Check the canonical character and location pages for any fixed details Flag any lore questions in GitHub Discussions before canonising new details in a StoryQuest Follow the standard StoryQuest submission process.
