[QUESTION] - Are lookup fields in large sobjects are disabling the use of bulk API?

When I include a Lookup Field into the query for a large dataset, the bulk API isn't used for the query. Is this a bug?

Can I only get a Id from a lookup field in a query without without intiating a lookup for the related sobject?
