This function determines where branches connect.
By using Rust a little differently the amount of curtains can be reduced. This helps readability, but it also simplifies the following bug fixes.

This PR fixes issue git-bahn/gleisbau#3, issue git-bahn/gleisbau#4, and issue #67.
The work on documentation is not complete, but since that is a large task it is probably best to commit piece by piece. Also, by requesting a pull I hope to get some comments on my understanding of the algorithm.
The work is driven by the need for gitui to have a branching algorithm. There will probably be more changes requested, in particular on the API.
