Example of expression with conditional logic accidentally removed?

In the course of reviewing and merging PR #38230, I believe a bit more was removed than intended by the reviewer. There was an example that already existed prior to the PR which I found very helpful, and my interpretation of the reviewer's comments was that they only felt that the new example (or extended explanation, really) added in the PR's first commit (0fe93b4) was unnecessary.

I would like to suggest the restoration of the original example.
