Contributor Covenant Code of Conduct

Our Pledge

We as members, contributors, and maintainers pledge to make participation in this project a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, caste, color, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.

Our Standards

Examples of behavior that contributes to a positive environment:

  • Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward other people
  • Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences
  • Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback
  • Accepting responsibility and apologizing to those affected by our mistakes
  • Focusing on what is best for the overall community
  • Supporting newcomers and people with less experience — everyone starts somewhere

Examples of unacceptable behavior:

  • The use of sexualized language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind
  • Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
  • Public or private harassment of any kind
  • Publishing others' private information without explicit permission
  • Dismissing or belittling contributions based on experience level, background, or identity
  • Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting

Zero Tolerance Policy

This project enforces a zero-tolerance policy for violations of this Code of Conduct.

Most projects use a graduated response — a warning, then a temporary ban, then a permanent ban. We do not. The reason is simple: warnings send the message that one free violation is acceptable. It is not. Harassment, discrimination, and abusive behavior cause real harm regardless of whether it is a "first offence." People who have been targeted do not get to un-experience what happened to them because the perpetrator received a warning first.

Zero tolerance means:

  • No warnings. A violation results in immediate removal.
  • No appeals based on intent. Impact matters more than intent.
  • No exceptions based on contribution history, seniority, or reputation.

This is not about being punitive. It is about making clear from the start that this is a space where people can contribute without fear. A community that tolerates bad behavior — even once — signals to everyone who might be affected that their safety is negotiable. Ours is not.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies within all project spaces — GitHub issues, pull requests, discussions, code review comments, and any other official channel. It also applies when an individual is representing the project in public spaces.

Enforcement

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported to gleaned.security@proton.me. All complaints will be reviewed promptly and confidentially. The reporter's privacy will be protected throughout the process.

Upon confirmation of a violation, the responsible individual will be permanently removed from all project spaces without prior warning.

Attribution

This Code of Conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, with an expanded zero-tolerance enforcement policy.
