Auto Rename of an Existing File

I was wanting to read/edit the contents of an existing file. FSNotes changed the file-name. I don't know why or what the setting is which made FSNotes rename the file.

How does one turn that off?

I am using version 7 of FSNotes from the Mac App Store in Tahoe 26.2

Settings -> General -> Files Naming -> Format: Untitled Note

I thought that was what is used for creating new notes. Is that setup also useful for files in the folder which were not created by FSNotes?

The problem was that I had First Line as Title checked in the Layout pane. I have that unchecked now. I thought that was more likely to cause a change the name of the file.

Your suggestion is useful to create new Notes. I don't like that much. It makes the process of creating a file too involved. Once untitled and then you have to click on the title bar and change the name. Too many steps. Selecting the search bar and typing in the new name of a new file works better for me.

Auto name may be suitable for you. In this case, auto renaming only works for the first 30 seconds after the file is created. I think all possible cases have already been implemented in the settings.
