Test with soft serve

Has anyone tried the cli communicating with soft serve ?

I work on self sovereign systems and this would make it easy to use git anywhere .

They both use the same golang module , so there is a high chance it will work .

Hey @joeblew999, thank you for starting this discussion. The CLI main purpose to me is to provide a command line interface for go-git. Soft Serve intentionally uses the Git binary to provide maximum compatibility with Git. GitHub, GitLab, Gitea mostly use upstream Git for their backend interactions. We could use Go-git CLI in Soft Serve instead of upstream Git, but since Go-git is written in Go, it would be more performative to use the library directly in Soft Serve.

In terms of testing, I would mainly focus on adding more tests to Go-git which the CLI library directly use and depend on. Later on, when we have better coverage for Go-git we can cover CLI unique cases here. I hope this helps 🙂
