Summary of Changes

Hello @gemini-cli-robot, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request delivers a patch release, v0.17.0-preview.1, by automatically cherry-picking a specific commit. The core change involves refining the model routing service to no longer automatically upgrade to a preview model when certain conditions are met, ensuring that the intended default model is maintained unless explicitly chosen. This streamlines model selection behavior and aligns it with expected routing outcomes.

Highlights

  • Model Routing Logic Update: The automatic upgrade mechanism from the default Gemini model (e.g., 2.5 Pro) to a preview model (e.g., 3.0 Pro) has been removed from the ModelRouterService.
  • Test Case Adjustments: Unit tests for ModelRouterService have been updated to reflect the change, now asserting that the service should NOT upgrade to a preview model under conditions where it previously would have.
  • Automated Patch Release: This pull request is an automated cherry-pick of a fix, creating version v0.17.0-preview.1 from v0.17.0-preview.0.

Code Review

This pull request cherry-picks a commit to remove the logic for automatically upgrading to a preview model within the ModelRouterService. The changes in modelRouterService.ts correctly remove this upgrade logic, and the corresponding unit tests in modelRouterService.test.ts have been updated to verify the new behavior. The changes are straightforward and correctly implemented. I have not found any issues with this change.
