Summary of Changes
Hello @mattKorwel, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!
This pull request enhances the create-patch-pr.js script by improving its resilience and user feedback mechanisms. It ensures that hotfix branches are not redundantly created and provides more informative return values from the main execution flow. Additionally, it refines the script's internal command execution utility to offer more flexible error handling options.
Highlights
- Hotfix Branch Existence Check: Added a check to prevent the script from attempting to create a hotfix branch if one with the same name already exists, improving idempotency.
- Enhanced
mainFunction Return Value: Themainfunction now returns an object indicating whether a new branch was created or an existing one was found, providing clearer status feedback. - Flexible Error Handling in
runFunction: Introduced athrowOnErrorparameter to therunutility function, allowing callers to optionally suppress error throwing and receivenullinstead.

Code Review
This pull request improves the create-patch-pr.js script by adding a check for pre-existing hotfix branches and making the command execution logic more flexible. The script now returns information about the created or existing branch. However, there is a significant issue with the new branch existence check: it does not respect the dryRun flag, causing it to perform network operations even in dry-run mode. My review includes a suggestion to fix this.
