What is the status of the Interactions API?

Hey all,

I saw in this commit that Interactions were rolled back. I don't see the justifications for the rollback, so I wanted to figure out the status. The Python implementation currently supports this - what are the plans for the Java implementation?

I submitted PR #792 in January 2026 implementing Interactions API support in Java, following the existing SDK patterns (client.interactions.create() alongside client.chats.create()). It was closed in favour of an internal implementation.

After the rollback in PR #1027, I took a closer look at what was removed. The internal implementation was built on a Kotlin-based GeminiNextGenApiClient — a separate client architecture that appears to have been abandoned.

My PR #792, by contrast, is pure Java and follows the existing SDK conventions. I've verified the core code is still compatible with the current 1.59.0 codebase.

Given that the rollback seems to be about the underlying architecture rather than the feature itself, would the team be open to revisiting PR #792?

The Python SDK already supports Interactions API, and the Java gap is increasingly noticeable for teams building on adk-java.

I'm happy to rebase against main and address any review feedback.
