Missing: Easter Island

Hello there. I see there are several dependencies, territories and islands. So I was expecting to find Easter Island (Rapa Nui) as a territory in Oceania and a 'region' of Chile. I'd like to have it available, since I visited it and it was my dream come true. Also, would totally fit in that nice travel tracker of yours! Thanks

Hi thanks for the feedback, the main idea is that we rely on the "official administrative boundaries" as it is a explicit and overall readily available data source. This allows to decide:

• should we have this region, city, island,...
• how should it be called
• what is the parent region/area

In this case, from wikipedia, we would expect:

• World > Continent: South America > Country: Chile > Region: Valparaiso > Province: Isla de Pascua

For now we did not go down to that level of detail and stop at the regional level (Valparaiso). We are considering add one more level of depth. This level would most likely not be rendered for utility and app-size concerns. The main issue is the amount of data we would have to add and validate: with 3630 regions, if we assume 20 sub-divisions, we would have to check through 72'000 new elements (name, formating,...)

Sure, thanks for the reply. I don't think every little region needs to be added, but probably Rapa Nui would be worth it, for its naturalistic, historical and cultural value that make it so well known and unique. Basically, going to Chile or going to Easter island are two very different things. It is also often considered a semi-autonomous oversea region of Chile.

As mentioned, we will not make any arbitrary decisions on what is included, excluded and where in the tree elements are found. We made the choice to strictly stick to a list of the "official administrative boundaries".

The two solutions we could see in a future improvement is to add:

• one more level to the region-tree (which would add the Isla de Pascua entry)
• a way to add custom entries to the that are not tied to the map (which would allow the option to add Pascua and any other entry to a custom list)
