Respondo logo

Respondo isn't just another Helpdesk CRM; it’s a high-performance solution engineered to bridge the communication gap between small businesses and their customers. In a world where communication is fragmented across emails, chats, and social platforms, Respondo acts as a single, intelligent heartbeat for your business operations.

This project was built with a clear philosophy: Complexity should be handled by the system, not the user. Every line of code, from the background workers to the UI primitives, is crafted to ensure that even the smallest team can provide enterprise-grade support with a human touch.

🌟 The Vision

The soul of Respondo lies in its Unified Multi-Channel Inbox. We believe that whether a customer reaches out via Gmail, WhatsApp, or a custom website widget, their experience should be seamless.

By integrating RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), we’ve moved beyond robotic auto-replies. Respondo learns from your past interactions and knowledge base to suggest thoughtful, context-aware responses, allowing agents to maintain a personal connection while moving at lightning speed.

Beyond communication, Respondo is built for organizational precision. Our Granular RBAC and Team Management system allows you to define custom roles with specific permission sets and organize agents into specialized teams. This ensures that every member of your staff has a workspace tailored to their responsibilities, maintaining security and focus as your operation scales.

🛠 The Engineering Core

AI-Powered Intelligence (RAG)

Unlike standard AI bots, our RAG-based system doesn't guess. It retrieves relevant data from your specific history and documentation to draft replies that are safe, accurate, and professional. It also intelligently categorizes tickets and summarizes long threads so you never lose the plot.

Enterprise-Grade Ticketing & RBAC

Every interaction is treated with care. Our ticketing system transforms every message into a structured Ticket, tracking its category, priority, and lifecycle. Combined with granular Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and built-in SLA timers, it ensures that the right agent is always working on the right priority.

Central Command Center

Efficiency is at the heart of the agent experience. The platform features a unified command layer designed for high-speed workflows:

  • Command Palette (Ctrl + K): Our upcoming global search and action bar for keyboard-first navigation (In Development).
  • Unified Notifications: A central system providing consistent, non-intrusive feedback across the entire application.
  • Standardized Dialogs: Accessible confirmation boxes that ensure critical actions are always intentional.

Reliable Background Processing

To keep the UI snappy, all heavy lifting—like parsing IMAP emails, generating AI embeddings, or sending bulk updates—is handled by Redis and BullMQ. This ensures the platform remains resilient even during peak traffic.

Comprehensive Customer Profiles

Beyond individual messages, the system maintains a deep Profile for every user. Agents can instantly view contact history, frequency of interaction, and common past issues. This context ensures your team understands the human behind the ticket before they ever hit "reply."

Data-Driven Insights

The built-in analytics engine provides real-time reports on response times, agent performance, and customer satisfaction, turning raw communication into actionable growth data.

🏗 System Architecture

Respondo is built as a high-performance Monorepo using Turborepo, ensuring a shared source of truth across the stack:

  • Frontend: Next.js with ShadCN UI for a polished, accessible interface.
  • Backend: Express.js handling complex logic and API orchestrations.
  • Database: PostgreSQL (Neon Database) managed via Prisma for type-safe, relational data integrity.
  • Identity: Better Auth for secure, flexible authentication (OAuth & JWT).
  • Queue & Background Jobs → Redis and BullMQ for offloading intensive tasks to keep the UI responsive.
  • AI Layer → A RAG pipeline connecting LLMs to business data for grounded, context-aware responses.

📁 The Blueprint

What Lives Where

  • apps/web — The heartbeat: Our main Next.js application.
  • packages/auth — Shared Better Auth configuration and logic.
  • packages/db — The schema and Prisma client that powers our data layer.
  • packages/ui — A dedicated design system: reusable components, icons, and brand assets.
  • packages/eslint-config & packages/typescript-config — Ensuring code quality and consistency across the repo.

Application Splits (Route Groups)

  • (marketing) — Our public face; the landing page experience.
  • (auth) — The gateway; secure login and onboarding.
  • (main) — The engine room; the authenticated dashboard and workspace.

🔄 Core Runtime Flow

  1. Entry: A visitor explores the (marketing) site.
  2. Identity: Authentication is handled by @repo/auth, supporting social and password-based login.
  3. Guardianship: apps/web/src/proxy.ts enforces access, routing users to their protected workspace.
  4. Engagement: The (main) dashboard loads, pulling shared UI components and state from @repo/ui.
  5. Action: Background workers process incoming multi-channel messages, turning them into active tickets.

🚀 Getting Started

Root Scripts

  • pnpm install — Install all dependencies across the entire monorepo.
  • pnpm dev — Spin up the entire ecosystem in development mode.
  • pnpm build — Prepare all apps and packages for production.
  • pnpm db:generate — Generate the Prisma client and models from the database schema.
  • pnpm build:assets — Regenerate shared brand assets in the UI package.

Environment Essentials

Ensure you have your .env configured with DATABASE_URL, APP_URL, and your various OAuth credentials (GITHUB, GOOGLE).

📖 Documentation Map

We believe in clear communication, even in our docs. Explore the specific layers of Respondo here:

💌 Notes for Contributors

This project is built with a focus on modularity and intentionality.

  • Stay Local: Keep business logic close to the feature that uses it.
  • Stay Shared: If it’s used twice, it probably belongs in packages/*.
  • Stay Collaborative: Write code and documentation with clarity and future maintainability in mind. We build for the team as much as for the product.

Thank you for being part of the Respondo journey. Let's build something that makes a difference.
