Description
This skill focuses on providing a maximalist exploratory approach to a given solution or question. It allows the user to take a solution multiple steps ahead to predict how a product could evolve over time and learn how far it could be taken. Inspired by "premature optimization is the root of all evil", in this case I make use of the contrary in a sensible way.
Validate Claims
Invoke the skill at the start or mid-conversation by saying "/overkill" or "overkill". Claude will ask you to specify a mode and will carry out the exploratory work. The output should be a ranked list of advanced alternatives with complexity scores and a comparison table, as well as a detailed analysis and references for each approach.
Specific Task(s)
A good example would be for a Data Engineer who is building a data lake for chemical reactions and who wants to create foundational models that mix structure and unstructured data.
Specific Prompt(s)
/overkill An OLTP to OLAP ETL process that can be used to create a foundational model for a chemistry reaction aggregated with lab equipment metadata
Additional Comments
I created this skill while working as a full-stack software engineer that wanted to mix exploratory with a bit of visionary work. In many cases I use this as "food for thought". I don't intend to implement all these optimizations, but in many cases I can predict how a product could evolve with the use of this skill.
