When I download the code main repository in zip file I get 57 empty sub-directories and 1019 files at "root" level. Is this normal ?

What command or tool did you use to unzip the archive?

I used 7-Zip version 25.01 (x64) in Windows 10 Pro ...

I used that for Jamulus-r3_12_2.

I used the same 7-Zip ( never changed the settings ) with jamulus-r3_11_0 :, and get a structure with many levels of directories and files in mostly each one.

Did you try downloading the release artifact source zip? I've not used the "clone as ZIP" interface. Using git clone works easily enough from the CLI.

Ok. I found the problem(s) :

1. I was downloading from the main branch instead of from the release/3_12 branch , which I surmise is the stable 3.12.2 version (as of 2026-07-17 02h20 UTC).
2. 7-Zip (v25.01) , possibly due to an upgrade, switched the View to Flat ; this however also affects the extraction. Unchecking the View / Flat View option solved it.
