Steps to reproduce:

1. Mute a player using ChatControl.
2. Give the player enough experience levels (for example, 36 levels).
3. Try to enchant an item using an anvil (example: apply Protection IV).
4. The experience levels are consumed, but the enchantment is not applied.
5. ChatControl displays the message:

Cannot rename items while chat or you are muted!

Expected behavior:

Muted players should still be able to use normal item mechanics such as enchanting items. A chat mute should only affect chat-related features and should not block anvil enchantments.

Actual behavior:

The player loses experience levels when trying to enchant an item, but the enchantment is not applied. ChatControl incorrectly prevents the anvil action because it treats the enchantment operation as an item rename action.

Thanks for reporting, confirmed. The mute check treated any anvil result carrying a custom name as a rename, so repairing, enchanting or combining an item that already has a custom name got blocked too. I patched it so the mute only blocks actual renames, will be in the next version.

Also, ChatControl never takes your XP. The level loss you see is a client display desync after the blocked click, relogging restores it.

Until the update, set Prevent_Anvil_Renaming: false under the Mute section in settings.yml and run /chc reload:

Fixed for the next release. Enchanting, repairing or combining items that already carry a custom name no longer trips the mute rename block, only actual renames do. I also verified on a live server that your XP is never taken server side, the level drop you saw is client display desync from the cancelled window click and comes back after a relog. Until the update you can set Mute.Prevent_Anvil_Renaming to false and run /chc reload. Closing, lemme know if you need more help :)

Fixed in 12.1.14, now live. Enchanting, repairing or combining items that already have a custom name works again while muted, only actual renames stay blocked.
