Un-reverseable Icons Sizes even after a fresh re-install and save game

Describe the problem

I'm unsure how to reproduce it, but at the same time I had the idea that it created a backup before changing anything, is what i tried the first time (before re-installing and deleting the savegame folder from docs) but no bak file.

But the icons for the jobs / school / university tab it's acting like it was upscale, even on a re-instalation, it's related to any registry files (if any)?

I tried this tool (yours) to see if i could play 1080p without the UI being small, didn't work is why i tried to revert it, saw i couldn't, i re-installed the game, and have that issue.

The icons still stuck upscaled are because they were "patched" from objects.package into a new package file. It's located here:

<game installation>/TSData/Res/Overrides/hidpi-patches-objects.package

Search for hidpi-patches-objects.package in your "The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection" game installation folders and then delete them. That'll fix it.

I'm not sure how this happened, the patcher does check for those files, unless there is a permissions issue writing the metadata file (.patched) to tell it was patched.

I'm afraid not. It's designed to double the geometry and graphics, so it makes the UI scale correctly for our 4K (and maybe 1440p) screens, for the older builds of the game. Fractional scaling (with incremental sizes like 10%, 90% larger) produce visual artifacts with our logic. Could hack the patcher code to try, but the result might not be good.

EA's re-release of the game: The Sims 2™ Legacy Collection, implemented a new UI scaling mechanism which is probably what you're looking for. It's completely different to this patcher does it - but the sharp eyes might see it as a sort of blurry.

When i meant I re-installed the game, I mean to the point where I did literally delete the game and the savegame, on a fresh install where I didn't ran the upscale.

In that case, maybe the patcher program (or Sims 2) ran in some compatibility mode where it thought it had access to Program Files. Try checking here:

I see the file in the path you gave me, I'm pretty sure the first time i ran the program (not now) i ran it as admin as it was stated on the readme if i recall correctly.

Should I just delete the file or all the sims related info in virtualstore?

VirtualStore is like an overlay on top of folders like Program Files. If it's only the game files, sure, delete them.

I have observed the game might try 'writing' to package files stored within the game installation at start-up, for some reason.

... ah, maybe that's the cause! I'll use this issue to remind me to check Windows and update the README/patcher accordingly. Maybe the patcher was working as expected, but it was the game that wanted to "touch" the file, which ends creating a copy in VirtualStore since we don't play The Sims 2 as an admin.

I play sims 2 out of the box with no comp or admin, only ran admin for the ui-patch
