Some system roles have a concept of a "provider" e.g. the timesync role can use ntp or chrony - most of the variables are generically named and applicable to both providers, but some are provider specific - https://github.com/linux-system-roles/timesync?tab=readme-ov-file#role-variables - and you can force the use of a provider with timesync_ntp_provider

Same with the network role - initscripts vs. NetworkManager

I realize snapshot is a bit different - maybe "provider" doesn't map well - but you might be able to leverage the concept
