Thanks for writing this up, it is helpful for people having a similar Bluetooth dongle, like https://www.edimax.com/edimax/merchandise/merchandise_detail/data/edimax/de/bluetooth/bt-8500/ note that their driver set https://www.edimax.com/edimax/mw/cufiles/files/media/images/edimaxDE/Downloads/BT-8500/BT-8500_Linux_Bluetooth_Driver_1_0_0_1.zip says that the `bu` variants of the firmware are for the USB variants.
