Keep Picture-in-Picture Visible in Overview Mode #80

Description

@deluca0206

Description

The Picture-in-Picture window in Aurora Shell becomes hidden when the user enters Overview mode, also known as GNOME's search or activities view.

Ideally, the PiP window should remain visible above the Overview interface, allowing the user to continue watching the content while searching for applications, switching workspaces, or navigating through open windows.

Current Behavior:

The PiP window is visible during normal desktop usage.
When Overview mode is opened, the PiP window becomes hidden.
The PiP window becomes visible again after leaving Overview mode.

Expected Behavior:

The PiP window should remain visible while Overview mode is active.
It should stay above the Overview interface without preventing the user from interacting with search results, workspaces, or application windows.

Motivation

Keeping the Picture-in-Picture window visible in Overview mode would provide a more consistent viewing experience. Users could continue watching content while searching for applications, switching workspaces, or navigating between open windows, without the video being temporarily hidden.

Additional Context

Technical Dependency:

This card is being created for tracking purposes only.

The expected behavior may depend on Wayland providing an official Picture-in-Picture protocol. Implementation should be evaluated once the required Wayland protocol is available and supported by Aurora Shell.
