As drone delivery becomes increasingly common, there is a critical need to design lightweight but strong structural frames that can safely carry payloads without compromising stability or control. This project challenges students to apply concepts from Statics and Physics to optimize drone frame design using principles like force equilibrium, moments, trusses, and center of mass. The experience simulates real-world engineering

## Project Description

This project challenges students to design a lightweight but strong drone payload structure by applying core statics principles such as equilibrium, moments, trusses, and center‑of‑mass analysis. Using MATLAB simulation, students will estimate payload capacity, analyze structural loads on drone arms, and validate stability for safe flight. Through iterative design, they explore real engineering tradeoffs between strength, weight, and performance in modern drone applications.

Open the "DroneDesign_StudentProjectTemplate.mlx" Live Script in MATLAB as a starting point for your project.

1. Gather your starter assumptions so you can plug in numbers later.

- Consider a quadcopter drone (4 motors) with a max takeoff weight of 2kg (including the payload)

- Each motor can provide up to 1kg thrust

- Material (you choose e.g. aluminum or carbon, look up typical material properties)
