ZDNET has reported that Azure Linux 4.0 is set to be released soon for general availability on both Azure and WSL.
Given that it is intended for use with Azure and WSL, it will likely be a purely command-line interface (CLI)-based Linux distribution.
I expect it to come pre-installed with PowerShell and the new
edittool. It may also include components from Microsoft's SysInternals for Linux suite like ProcDump for Linux, ProcMon for Linux and SysMon for Linux
Furthermore, I anticipate that Azure Linux 4.0 will feature WINE—or a fork thereof—to enable the execution of Windows CLI applications.
That said, many CLI programs currently do not run particularly well on WINE; for instance, Far Manager 3.x performs poorly on WINE at present, while the Windows version of Microsoft's new
edittool does not run on it at all.Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.
