Support for Visio documents

We have a number of visio documents containing designs / entity diagrams etc. We were hoping to get these data converted (may be treat them as image). But wanted to check if anyone has experimented with the visio files

I don’t think Visio is supported directly in MarkItDown right now.

It is not listed in the built-in supported formats, so the practical options are:

• export Visio to a supported format first, or
• use a separate Visio-to-Markdown tool/plugin

So short answer: not built in.

Not built-in. Three workarounds: libreoffice --headless --convert-to pdf file.vsdx then run markitdown on the PDF (loses structure, keeps labels), python-vsdx for extracting shape text and connections programmatically from .vsdx, or export to SVG from Visio and use any SVG-to-markdown pipeline. For ER diagrams the LibreOffice path is usually good enough if the downstream LLM is doing the understanding.
