Using the wrong activation script on Windows + gitbash + conda#1247

On windows and running gitbash as default terminal, with miniconda.

When creating a new terminal the cmd .bat file is attempted for environment activation, even though I am opening up gitbash and it should use the bash equivalent:

# gitbash
$ source C:/Tools/miniforge3/Scripts/activate.bat pipes

If I open powershell, cmd and WSL (Ubuntu) shells for each of these it uses the correct activation script.

  • Conda path is set to the output of which conda
  • The extension isn't attempting to use a bash-specific activation script in the case of git-bash.
  • What is clear from the log is that the Global sourcing is detected as the .bat file, and no Local activation is detected for any of the envs.

Workaround

I can work around this by manually adding a activate symbolic link inside my environment's Scripts directory pointing to the global bash-specific activation script.

cd ~/.conda/envs/pipes/Scripts
ln -s /c/Tools/miniforge3/Scripts/activate

After that the Local Activation section in the logs shows this script being detected and used:

$ source C:/Users/Eze/.conda/envs/pipes/Scripts/activate pipes
(pipes) $

The problem is that for any new environment I need I would have to run this symbolic link trick. It would be better if the extension used the right script out of the box.
