Bug concerning managing packages

Unable to manage packages, no "manage package" icon visible, errors like

Command 'Install Package' resulted in an error
Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'env')

despite having trusted the workspace, configured conda path, and done everything I could to get it working.

Hi @PhilSeaSparks! Thank you for filing an issue, I saw your review on the marketplace and wanted to be able to jump in and try and figure it out.

A few things:

1. Can you try updating to the most recent pre-release of the python extension which is 1.5.12381008 (not the python environments extension, it is weird but the python extension had a bug with how it processed the information from the python environments extension). Thinking you might be experiencing this: Fails to debug pytest tests in conda environment #508 as I have seen similar with the error coming back as an access issue.
2. For "manage package" icon not showing, could you send a screenshot? Also do other actions work for this workspace like opening a terminal? Finally what is the environment type you are having trouble with? This should help me narrow down the issue but I may also need you to check if you have anything set for the "defaultPackageManager" setting in your workspace or in your user settings as it is possible a setting got injected in here incorrectly which is now causing problems.

Hey Eleanor, many thanks for your message. I’m currently using: Python extension: ***@***.*** Pylance extension: ***@***.*** All set on auto-update. And the screenshot is attached, no “manage” icon (like the small 3d-package in your docs) that I could see or click. Using the command palette with “manage packages” and then selecting “install packages” gives an error message, see attached. Please dont get me wrong, but for such a basic extension, i.e. managing python envs, you have 1,x stars - all the latest ratings & comments are really bad. There must be something wrong on a deeper level here in the way you provide and test such extensions, I am afraid. Best regards Phil

Hi Phil! I can't see the screenshot you attached. I have been making numerous improvements to the extension to fix bugs so also give it a try on the newest pre-release version and let me know if anything changes
