Format README: fix wrapping and examples

Reflow and tidy README.md for improved readability. Removed stray line breaks and extra indentation, consolidated broken code/example lines, normalized XML/Gradle snippets, compacted Java usage examples, and fixed Markdown table formatting and resource link rows. Also standardized bullet lines for issue/discussion links and adjusted the maintainers table header. No functional/content changes — only formatting and presentation.
