Noise suppression
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Enable noise suppression to reduce background noise during calls with following steps:

1. Open ``Media settings`` before or during a call
2. Locate the ``Microphone settings`` section
3. Enable ``Noise suppression`` at desired level

Auto-gain control and echo cancellation options are also available in the same section.

Start a call with any user directly from the avatar menu.
No need to navigate to a conversation first; call while working on files, tasks, or other activities!

Accessing the call menu
-----------------------

1. Click on a user's avatar from any app in your Nextcloud workspace to open a menu
2. Select ``Call {user}``
3. A direct call is initiated immediately in a floating window

Best Practices
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

- **Check availability**: Check user status to see whether people are available before calling
- **Respect preferences**: Some may prefer messages over calls. Could this have been an e-mail?
- **Switch to groups**: Create a dedicated conversation for multi-user discussions

Nextcloud Talk offers features to organize and manage your conversations efficiently.

Tags
----

Create custom tags to categorize your conversations and keep them organized.
Tags help you group conversations by project, team, topic, or any other criteria that makes sense for your workflow.

1. Select a conversation and open actions menu
2. Select ``Tags`` and choose an existing tag or create a new one
3. The conversation will now be tagged and grouped accordingly

You can later manage existing tags by renaming, reordering or deleting them.

Sorting and grouping
--------------------

You can additionally customize how conversations appear in the list.
They can be sorted:

- **By last activity**: Show most recently active conversations first (default)
- **Alphabetically**: Sort conversations alphabetically by name

Similar types can also be grouped together:

- **Do not group by type**: Keep a flat list of all conversations
- **Show private ones first**: Show private conversations before groups/public
- **Show group ones first**: Show groups/public conversations before private

Conversation presets
======================

Conversation presets allow administrators to define templates for new conversations, with pre-configured settings such as permissions, lobby rules, and conversation type.

Available presets
-----------------

Depending on your instance configuration, you may see presets when creating a new conversation.
Each preset applies a specific set of defaults suited to a particular use case.

Voice room
----------

A permanent call room ("Voice room") is a conversation preset optimized for non-obligatory, always-available meetings.
Any person entering the conversation will be joining the call there, making it easier to start communicating.
Messages in voice room conversation are set to expire after certain time, to keep it lightweight and spontaneous.

Webinar
-------

Moderators can configure a preset to force the lobby, ensuring participants wait for a moderator before joining.
When a conversation uses a forced lobby preset:

- Participants see a waiting room upon joining
- A moderator must allow them to the conversation or lift the lobby
- Useful for webinars, interviews, or controlled meetings

Presentation
------------

Presentation preset is useful for internal meetings, where it is expected to have more listeners than speakers.
Participant permissions are optimized to ensure the best performance and moderation experience, allowing presenters to speak uninterrupted.

Private replies
---------------

Private replies are messages that are forwarded directly to a one-to-one conversation between you and specific message author, to maintain privacy where it's needed.

1. In group and public conversations, select a message you want to reply to privately
2. In message actions, select ``Reply privately``
3. A one-to-one conversation window opens with the original message quoted
4. Add your response and send a message

The reply provides a full context of a quoted message — including the original sender's name, original conversation context, and backlink.

Message reactions
-----------------

Add emoji reactions to messages to quickly express agreement, celebrate, or indicate emotions without typing full responses.

1. Hover over a message in the chat
2. Click the ``Add reaction`` button from message actions
3. Select an emoji from the list of frequently used or full picker

You can hover over a reaction to see other users who reacted with it.
Click one of the existing reactions to react with the same emoji! You can click it again to remove your reaction from the message.
